1. Basic Entry
(Worked example for a Genesis commentary)
- Browse to the Genesis Resources page: Pentateuch.Genesis
- Click on the ‘browse all commentaries’ link, to go to the commentaries page: Pentateuch.Genesis,CommentariesAll
- Click on the tab marked ‘edit table’ (along the top of the window)
- You will now see an “Edit Screen”, where you can edit the entries in the commentaries table. Most of this should be self-explanatory, but the notes below will take you through the slightly more technical bits:
1.1 Author.
1.1 Author.
At the very start of the author entry, you need to include an “anchor” (which will be invisible under normal view). The anchor is made up of: the author’s surname, with a hash in front of it, and surrounded by double square brackets. E.g. if the author is “Gordon Wenham”, then the anchor is:
- [[#Wenham]]
- [[#Wenham]]Gordon Wenham
1.2 Title.
This is straightforward. If the book is part of a series, you could include the name of the series in brackets on a new line.
1.3 Difficulty level.
Select a rating from the drop-down menu. Have a look at some existing entries to calibrate.
1.4 BTR Rating.
Select from drop-down menu. This is a rough, over-all rating for the given difficulty level. As an approximate guide:
- 5 stars - this is an outstanding resource
- 4 stars - this is a good, solid, quality resource
- 3 stars - this is a perfectly useful resource (but not brilliant)
- 2 stars - not a great resource. On the whole, not worth the effort
- 1 star - this is a very poor resource indeed.
1.5 BTR Review.
The idea with this mini-review is to put the thinking behind your “BTR rating” into words. We’re aiming for something short here - 2 or 3 sentences, about 30 words max. As a rule of thumb, if it so big that it makes the table look ugly, then you should make it a bit shorter. Further details can go into the “more” link. Concerning the “more” link, if you want to have one you need to include something of the form:
- [[Section.Pagename,Commentaries-Surname | (more...)]]
Of course, the details need to be made specific to your resource. E.g. a commentary on Genesis by Wenham would be:
- [[Pentateuch.Genesis,Commentaries-Wenham | (more...)]]
and a book bay Hayes on the Ethics.Biblical Ethics page would be:
- [[Ethics.BiblicalEthics,Books-Hays | (more...)]]
1.6 Format
This entry is simply there to make searches better. What search terms might someone use if looking for this format of resource? (Have a look at other entries to get a feel for standard usage).
1.7 Content
Ditto - again to make searches better, but this time based on content - what search terms might someone use.
1.8 Cover/Price
If you are listing a book, it’s good to put a Amazon link here, to show people what the cover looks like (and what the price is). See Inserting Amazon Links for more details.
2. Detailed Entry

Aiming at a longer review, of 100–200 words.
